Surely He hath borne our griefs...

On this Good Friday, 2015, take a few minutes to contemplate the Cross, suffering, and death, of Jesus Christ. In one act of sacrificial love, dying for the sins of many, He became a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.

"Surely He hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows," the Bible says.

Here is an excerpt from Handel's Messiah that encapsulates musically these basic truths. This is from Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra who, along with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, recorded their monumental and celebrated work in 1968, performing the entire work on the Columbia Masterworks label. None of the various recordings of the Messiah had approached the quality of this rendition until it was released, and I dare say that no recording of the Messiah has approached this level of quality in the years since it was released.
This, then, is my Good Friday gift to you.
