Another great music legend passes from us

I admit I hate it when we lose a great musical legend. Somehow or another I grow to love talented singers, whether I know them personally or not. In recent years I have lost some that I knew, and it hurt deeply. But there are others I never had the opportunity to meet but that nonetheless saddened me greatly when they passed from the scene.

One of those is country music legend George Jones.

Whether you liked his music or not, you would admit that his voice, his sound, defined country music for several generations. Country insiders agree that his was the best voice ever to come along in the genre. He was just built to sing a country song. His style, his tone, his emotion, all contained the essential ingredients to make a song a country song. I admit I liked it. No, I loved it.

I did not know George Jones, but I knew people who did. I remember one evening back in the 1980s I drove to the North Carolina mountains to see my good buddies, the Southern Gospel group The Florida Boys, who were singing on a Tuesday evening. The crowd was off that night, and I mentioned to lead vocalist and manager Les Beasley, "Man, where is everybody tonight?"

Les quipped that you have nights like that sometimes, especially early in the week, but the venue was a good one, they knew the promoter very well, and it was a good paying gig, even when the crowd was off. He also mentioned that on Sunday they had sung to 15,000 people at George Jones' music park that George and his wife were running at the time in East Texas. Les said that although it was a country music venue, each Sunday afternoon George and his wife insisted that a professional Southern Gospel group be included in the lineup "for the Lord's day."

"How is George doing these days?" I asked.

Les said, "He's doing great. You wouldn't believe the change in him. He got married again to a good woman. He quit drinking and cleaned up. And he's going to church."

Others who knew George confirmed what Les had told me.

I don't know that I ever disliked a single song George Jones ever recorded. He did all kinds of songs within the country genre -- fast songs, drinking songs, sad songs, songs about unrequited love, divorce, heartache, failure, and even funny songs.

I never will forget one afternoon having to pull my car over in laughter when they played one of George's funny songs about divorce. It was titled, "The Last Thing That I Gave Her Was the Bird."

But perhaps the song that George will always be most remembered for is his heartfelt, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," about a man who could not stop loving a woman despite being away from her for many years. He got over her only when he died.

It is that song I will close with now. I hope you enjoy it. And George, Rest in Peace. Thank you for the music.

Questions remain on Saudi national tagged as "terror suspect" in Boston bombing

Flying under the radar screen ever since the very minute the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon is the widely unreported story of a Saudi national at the scene who had been tagged as a terror suspect by U.S. officials.

The major news organizations will not report the story, and those that did report it have basically dismissed the information as irrelevant or unimportant. But from the beginning the Examiner has relayed information indicating that there may be much more to this story than what meets the eye.

Here is what is known so far.

The Gun Rights and Liberty News Roundup for 4/26/2013

WRSA posts a must-read on dangerous old men. Before this is over, looks like a LOT of us "old guys" will have to get dangerous to save the Republic.

Karl Denninger delineates the various reasons why we cannot have a "reasonable discussion" on the Second Amendment.

Way Up North provides the must-see video from PJTV titled, "Enemies of the State."

Traction Control declares that the conversation is over. No more "debate." No more "friendly national discussion." Those tactics did not work.

David Codrea has the inside story on Operation Wide Receiver -- the smaller "test run" of the massive Fast and Furious operation that was implemented later.

Kurt Hofmann says that once again the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has sided with jackbooted thuggery against the individual rights of citizens.

Roberta X writes on the dire necessity of citizens to keep their watch on Congress due to the fact that they will keep whittling away at gun rights, bit by bit, no matter what. And note what she says about the right to keep and bear arms. Yep!

Mike Vanderboegh has some food for thought, "while you clean your rifle."

Standing By points out a most disturbing aspect of the manhunt conducted to catch the Boston Marathon bombers.

Tam offers a word or two concerning the irony inherent in the Democrats' "concern" about Middle Eastern dictators who gas their own people.

Days of our Trailers reports that a group of anti-gun independent film makers racked up a major FAIL in getting funding for their project.

CLO hammers away at the importance of making it clear to Congress critters that there are to be NO DEALS on gun control, period. None. Zilch. Nada.

Alphecca notes that the anti-NRA rally yesterday was pathetic. How pathetic? Take a look.

Stand Up America says we need a new political party in America and delineates what that party should be about.

Glenn Beck presents the evidence in a video of his charge that a Saudi national was knee-deep in the Boston bombing -- a fact covered up by the Obama Administration. The vid is at Stand Up America. Just scroll down a bit on the main page to view it.

No time to rest; gun control freaks keep coming

Patriots in the modern era had best get accustomed to the fact that in spite of victories on certain fronts in the war for liberty, the forces of anti-freedom keep coming relentlessly. This is certainly the case with gun control freaks who never seem to let up on finding a new angle, a new strategy, that will give them a win in their war on human freedom, particularly the right of human beings to self-defense with firearms.

Some Republicans in the U.S. Senate are continuing to work with Democrats on a gun control bill that...

The eyes have it again...

Another flare-up of my inflammatory eye disorder...off to the eye doc. Could use your prayers. The best thing you can do for me, other than pray, is to read my latest Examiner article I posted below. Thanks!

Leading the way on civil disobedience

Excerpt:

"America today, however, is a far cry from 1967 or the early 1970s. The hippies and subversives of the 60s have cleaned up and put on three piece suits, and entered the halls of government.

"This fact is not without dire consequences. Many government watchdog groups are convinced that the election of Barack Obama represented a distinct change of direction. The government is no longer the guardian of the Constitution but the enemy of it. The goal of government is no longer to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution but to undermine it."

Something new--The Gun Rights and Liberty News Roundup

This is a test run for something brand new here at the Liberty Sphere -- the gun rights and liberty news roundup. It is essentially the same thing I have been doing with the 2A News Roundup but an expanded version. And since I link to other issues besides the 2nd Amendment, particularly issues related to individual liberty, I thought that this needed to be emphasized in the title.

I will see how this goes in terms of time and effort, and return. If people read it and like it, I will continue. If it turns out not to be very popular, I will drop it and go back to the current format.

Those of you who are regular readers may want to let me know if you like the new version. This will help me make a determination as to whether or not to continue with the new version. As I said, I am not going to end the roundup. I will simply return to the top ten format I currently use if the new format does not prove to be popular.

So, let's get started.

David Codrea reports that a father of one of the Newtown victims declared that anti-gun nutcases do NOT speak for him!

Mike Vanderboegh says that the collectivists are trying to box us in with a Catch-22 on the "law abiding citizen" argument.

Kurt Hofmann muses on gun control and the lessons from Boston.

WRSA has news on gun rights and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Way Up North alerts us to a JPFO notice that the background check system is already denying war veterans their gun rights. They present a current case that proves the point.

Brigid presents a must-read on rights, change, and the desire to fight with all that is within us to preserve that which we hold dear.

Alphecca declares that Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for voting for THIS!

Pamela Geller reports that the Boston Jihad bomber declared that the reason for the terrorist attack was to "defend Islam."

Days of our Trailers says that the Bastard (Mayor Bloomberg) now wants to "re-interpret" the Constitution. I can sum it up in one sentence -- government has all of the unalienable rights, and citizens have NONE.

Tam says she has been waiting for a good while to say THIS in response to a common mantra of anti-gun nutcases.

Around O-Town wants to know why Napolitano, Holder, and our weak politicians are not uttering THIS word publicly.

John Jacob H takes Boston to task for its response to the marathon attacks.

From GunRights4US: "All in the Name of Keeping You Safe."

Karl Denninger notes some common Second Amendment lies.

Stand Up America posts a helpful analysis by Robert Spencer on the assertion that 12 terrorist sleeper cells are operating in America.

Glenn Beck's The Blaze reports that the Saudi student who was the very first "person of interest" in the Boston bombing was placed on the terror watch list, according to a stunning admission by none other than Janet Napolitano!

No, we do not congratulate Boston law enforcement

First, it is important at the outset to thank the citizen who noticed that something was very different about the boat into which one of the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombings had sought refuge. It is further important to thank that citizen for contacting law enforcement to report something highly suspicious about the boat, given that just minutes earlier the boat had been examined and deemed to be safe.

It is safe to assume that had it not been for this observant citizen, law enforcement may not have apprehended the suspect...

Controversy swirls over Saudi national as first suspect in Boston bombing

With the release of new information Monday concerning the terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon last week, controversy swirls over the Saudi national who was the very first suspect in the Boston bombing but who was allegedly swiftly deported by the Obama administration.

Information released today by Congressional sources and reported by television and radio personality Glenn Beck via The Blaze, in addition to Fox News, indicates that the Saudi national was on the terror watch list and yet was allowed entrance into the United States on a student visa without being properly vetted.

Congressional sources further confirm that the Saudi had a direct connection with the Boston bombing, but they are not sure at this point in the investigation as to exactly what the connection is.

Speaking truth to power in Hartford, Conn.

After spending two days in Massachusetts highlighting the importance of the U.S. Constitution, gun rights, and keeping the oaths the group had taken to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic," the Oath Keepers group moved into Connecticut Saturday to continue to hammer home the Founders' message of freedom and liberty in an area where such concepts are under attack.
