How Did We Get Here and What Will Change It?

This is the 4th and final segment in my series, 'Essential Concepts,' at Columbia Conservative Examiner:

Part 4--How Did We Get Here and What Will Change It?

I sincerely hope you will read, ponder, and ACT.

Second Amendment News Roundup for 10/30/09

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

Tam says 'color me skeptical' concerning the pronouncement this morning on the news that the 'recession is over.' Tell me about it. Don't believe 'em. It AIN'T true! The recent boost was a bubble created by the cash for clunkers program alone. It's over. Unemployment will continue to rise, and just wait till we reap the consequences of the present monetary and economic policy being pursued by the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury.

Karl Denninger at Market Ticker provides all the details to the commentary above with 'How Do You Get "Economic Recovery" out of These Numbers?'

Mike McCarville points to a little-known rising star in the GOP, but as Mike notes, questions still remain.

Iron Mill News Service provides analysis on U.S. Senator Jim DeMint's proposal for terms limits in Congress.

ALRIGHTY, folks! Time to chuckle a bit as we head into the weekend. The Ol' Broad has some goodies today to tickle your funny bone--the best political cartoons on the Internet. Enjoy...

New Details Emerge on House HC Bill

As we reported yesterday, the gargantuan 1990-page 'healthcare reform' bill agreed upon by the House is replete with booby-traps for the citizens. New details revealed today indicate that the 'death panels' Sarah Palin warned about are back and very present in the bill.

This provision will determine who is worthy of care based upon age and overall health, which will most certainly result in rationing for the elderly. In addition, the measure mandates that 'end of life counseling' be offered to the elderly.

The cost of the plan is also of great interest. According to the Congressional Budget Office the pricetag will be 1.055 TRILLION, far above the supposed goal of Nancy Pelosi and others to keep the cost below a trillion bucks.

But by the time ALL of the hidden costs are added in to the measure, the actual price is more like 2 trillion at the very least.

Let's take a quick review of the provisions of the bill as they are known so far:

*It covers illegal aliens.
*It covers abortions.
*It raises taxes.
*It mandates that all citizens purchase health insurance (which is unconstitutional).
*It takes billions out of Medicare and depletes the Medicare Advantage supplemental programs.
*It gives the HHS Secretary the power to create 'waiting lists' which is tantamount to rationing.
*It imposes heavy fines on individuals who fail to purchase insurance and on businesses that fail to provide it for their employees, leading to unemployment and layoffs since many businesses can't afford it.
*It maintains the so-called 'public option' which will drive private insurers out of business. In short, this is government-run healthcare.

The House will debate the bill next week. Assuming it passes, which is in doubt, it will have to go to a conference committee to reconcile the bill with a Senate version. The Senate has already made it clear that ObamaCare is in deep trouble with heavy hitters such as Joe Lieberman and Olympia Snowe indicating they will not support the plan.

Breaking: Dems Unveil Massive 1990-page HC bill (UPDATE)

Well, the Socialists are on the move! Read it all.

We are also hearing reports that Pelosi has blocked the public from listening to or watching debate about the bill.

UPDATE: Pelosi actually blocked the public from attending the west wing ceremony announcing the new HC bill that will be voted upon by the full House next week. Debate has not yet ensued. However, the area from which Pelosi banned the public is normally a part of the Capitol building that is open to citizens. But only a select few were allowed, which included Union members from SEIU and other groups that support a government takeover of healthcare.

In addition, the bill not only mandates that all Americans purchase health insurance (a DEFINITE violation of the Constitution!) but it funds abortions with tax dollars, covers illegal aliens, and takes billions out of Medicare and the supplemental Medicare Advantage plans in order to shift preference to younger, healthier persons. The bill also gives the power to a yet unnamed 'government secretary' (I assume the Secretary of HHS) to create 'waiting lists.' In other words, Obama and the Dems already know that their plan will necessitate the rationing inherent in forcing patients onto government-created waiting lists....

Part 3--Essential Concepts

Today we examine how the Framers guarded against mob rule democracy by inserting safeguards into the Constitution.

Columbia Conservative Examiner has this 3rd in the series on 'essential concepts.'

Please read it and pass it along!

Essential Concepts: Republic vs. Democracy

One of the essential concepts to understanding the American form of government, and indeed, to the very survival of our nation, is the concept of 'a Republic' as opposed to 'a Democracy.'

I discuss this concept today at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

Folks, this one is VITAL, and word must be spread about it, or else we are doomed as a nation.

Second Amendment News Roundup for 10/27/09

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

Pax Parabellum presents a story I always love to see--a pistol-packing Granny who protected her family from thugs.

From Standing By: 'More News from the FORMER United States of America.'

Way Up North provides the MUST-read quote of the day.

The Newbius Papers has a picture that says it all. Go look.

Tam blogs about a man with good taste in firearms. I agree.

GunRights4US points to info on the man who is running against John McCain in Arizona. And yes, he is avidly pro-gun.

Say Uncle says that the man who invented the Kalashnikov rifle has some regrets.

Sebastian highlights yet another scumbag in Congress who needs to be sent packing. Wait till you see what he told Obama-another scumbag who needs to be sent packing.

Ride Fast and Shoot Straight has spot-on commentary on open carry.

Days of our Trailers comments on the attempts by the gun-grabbers in the Kalifornia of the South, North Carolina, to ban firearms. Scumbags have practically overrun the entire state, and yes, I am angry about it. This is part of my home territory!

Walls of the City comments on a disturbing trend in the auto industry, particularly in light of the fact that the 'Government Motors' entity is collaborating with their owner, 'Big Brother Nanny State.' (I know I mix my metaphors, but who cares, both are correct!).

Nicki offers insight into Obama's declaration that the swine flu constitutes a 'national emergency.'

Hoyer 100% WRONG on 'General Welfare' Clause

In the hoop-la over the current healthcare debate in Congress, House Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer claims that the Constitution gives Congress the power to mandate that all Americans purchase health insurance under the 'General Welfare' clause.

Bull.

Hoyer, as usual, is 100% WRONG.

Here is the truth about the General Welfare clause:

The Truth is that Congress is NOT authorized to pass laws just because a majority in Congress say the laws promote the “general welfare”! As shown below, James Madison, Father of The Constitution, and Alexander Hamilton, author of most of The Federalist Papers, expressly said The Constitution does not give a general grant of legislative authority to Congress! Rather, ours is a Constitution of enumerated powers only. If a power isn’t specifically granted to Congress in The Constitution, Congress doesn’t have the power. It really is that easy - and our beloved Madison and Hamilton prove it.

Read the whole thing here.

DeMint--'Why We Need Term Limits in Congress'

Speaking of true conservatives, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint, R-SC, has introduced legislation that will impose term limits on members of Congress, according to a report issued today by NetRight Nation.

DeMint describes in detail his reasoning for introducing the measure.

I agree. It has become all too apparent that the only way citizens are going to get rid of the deadwood, the riff-raff, the entrenched sell-outs to special interests, and the elitists who have shown time and again that they do not give a damn about the citizens, is to impose limits on how long they can stay in Washington.

Such a plan is long overdue.

How much do you want to bet, however, that with the current majority of occupants in Congress this piece of legislation will never see the light of day. November of 2010 can't get here quickly enough!

Obama-Emanuel Tactic Failed on Healthcare

One of the most trusted reporters/commentators in the nation, Mike McCarville, notes that the attempt of Barack Obama and top WH aide Rahm Emanuel to play 'divide and conquer' with doctors and the GOP was an utter failure.

The tactic was an all-out effort to ram the ObamaCare package through Congress by wooing moderate Republicans to the cause, and by attempting to buy off doctors by assuring them their reimbursement rates for Medicare patients will not decrease if they, in turn, support the President's ill-conceived plan.

U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma, one of the few truly conservative members of Congress, is a physician who vehemently opposes the proposals put forth in Congress to dismantle the U.S. Healthcare System. McCarville's article provides a complete report on Coburn's remarks concerning these healthcare bills.

"Check Your Gig Line"

The airmen of the United States Air Force are taught to constantly check their 'gig line':

The neophyte airmen are also endlessly checking their "gig line." That's the vertical visual continuity created by the edge of the shirt placket aligning perfectly with the belt buckle and the outside edge of the trouser fly. Attention to the gig line results in a look that is razor-sharp.

As columnist Jennifer Weber points out, there is an important life-lesson in the middle of that.

Blowing the Whistle on Lindsey Graham, the RINO

During a Town Hall meeting in Greenville, S.C., Graham went on the defensive toward conservatives and Ron Paul supporters. He said that he had no intention of being the party of “angry white guys”. When asked why he just doesn't leave the Republican party like Arlen Specter, he said, “I'm not going to leave the Republican Party... I'm going to grow it

As the author states, Graham's voting record has undergone a drastic change since he was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002. For this reason, it is Jim DeMint who is South Carolina's truly conservative Senator.

Note the New 'DONATE' Button to Your Left

Friends and readers,

I have added a PayPal 'donate' button to this blog so that you can share in keeping its presence and purpose alive and prominent on the Internet. Blogs like this one are vital to survival of our Republic, and unfortunately, our present government considers such writings to be a threat.

Help keep The Liberty Sphere prominent by considering a donation and by spreading the word about it. I have some ideas about how to take the blog up another level, but it involves some expense. You can help by making a donation.

No, your gifts are not 'tax deductible' since I am not a 'non-profit.' In fact, I hate that term because it carries the connotation that such outfits don't have to make a profit to survive. They do. But they benefit from a government designation, giving them an unfair advantage over the traditional American concept of FOR-PROFIT.

I deeply appreciate your giving anything you can reasonably afford.

Remember that PayPal is secure and accepts a variety of payment methods.

Thank-you in advance for your help. And thank-you for being faithful readers of these pages.

Sincerely,
Anthony

Rumors

Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated. :)

Sorry for the lack of blogging and writing of late, but much is happening around here that I will tell you about in due time. Let's say for now that I am excited about the possibilities.

In the meantime, until I can get myself re-focused on the blog and the op-ed column, you can do me a big favor by reading my personal liberty manifesto, entitled, 'SEVEN DECLARATIONS OF LIBERTY,' which you will find at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

I was afforded the privilege of presenting an expanded version of this topic at a private meeting of concerned Patriots over the weekend. I received some very good feedback, and the principles delineated in the article were heartily received and affirmed.

I hope you will read it and pass it along. Thanks!
